Both have been linked with the manager's job at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a really big football club."

McKenna signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

Wales are currently third in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
