Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Members to the White House
President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that educators desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on the program that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
