Almost 55,000 homes have so far been affected by the rains, with their belongings and dwellings ruined.

Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have compounded the precarious living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of uprooted residents in the Gaza Strip, according to humanitarian groups.

"Awful" Night Brings Serious Dangers

A representative described the recent storm as "horrendous", with downpours so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the residents. The storms were so strong... And the gusts were so powerful," stated the official.

Officials express extreme worry that children sheltering in temporary structures in soaked clothing will succumb to hypothermia and additional sicknesses.

Deaths and Extensive Damage

The health ministry have reported that one baby has died from exposure and at least 11 other people have been killed in building collapses due to the severe weather.

Further statements put a greater death toll. Officials stated that several homes had fully given way and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

  • Nearly 55,000 families impacted by rains.
  • More than 40 emergency shelters submerged.
  • Many people compelled to find new shelter.

Relief Operations Seen as Not Enough

Organizations have escalated deliveries of shelter, bedding and clothes after the ceasefire commenced, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Officials are working relentlessly to provide that assistance and to distribute it, but the size of the requirements is so immense that we continue to see a great number of individuals and children who are genuinely struggling every night," stated one spokesperson.

Future Concerns and Truce Terms

The second phase of the truce includes proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of personnel, and other provisions.

Humanitarian bodies have underscored the imperative for "greater and continuous relief to meet urgent and ongoing needs."

The war was initiated by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent military operations have led to a substantial number of lives lost in the territory, based on official figures.
