Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year after leading disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy time at Elland Road finished amicably in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Previous History Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
